An Endless Sky
Artist Statement:
My favorite thing to do in any photo is showcase the contrast of colors and light. For this photo in particular, I wanted the tree to act as a shadow for the piece and a way to even out the frame. Although I could not predict the placement of the cloud, I tried to keep the motion of the clouds maintained in the frame to give the picture motion. In addition, I kept the blue of the remaining sky in the frame to cool down the picture and balance out the bright sunlight from the clouds and the dark shadows created from the tree.

Pinked GreenArtist Statement:
I wanted the focus of this photo to be on the pink flowers shown in the frame. I achieved this by keeping the lines and symmetry very clean and crisp to have a line for the eye to follow. In addition, I made sure to darken the background just enough where the highlight would be on the things in the foreground instead of the elements in the background. |
Under the ArchArtist Statement:
I wanted to play with textures and color in this photo especially. Although those are two elements I strive to have in every photo, I wanted it present in this one the most. The framing of this photo was of utmost importance to me as I wanted the arch and my friend (Sophia) to be the focal points of the story. This caused the grabbing of the arch crucial as it created a connection between the two. When editing this photo, I chose to highlight the darker colors to contrast with the white of the arch here as well as the setting sun from the background. |
Purple Bloom
Artist Statement:
A favorite of mine to photograph is that of flowers and other still life/objects. In addition, in these types of photos, I try to get on that objects level just to see what interesting and different angles I can find. For this photo, I chose to focus on one flower to be in the foreground and have the rest populating the blurry background; causing more focus on the flower in the front of the frame. The use of color balance was also important here as I wanted the complementariness of the purple and green to shine through to just leave the white of the flower as the most neutral thing in frame.

Fractured
Artist Statement:
This is one of my favorite photos I have taken because of the cooler tones and use of angles throughout the image. When editing this photo, I chose to highlight the overall cooler colors to balance the chaos within the frame. I really put thought into the positions of each piece within the frame. For the corners, they are the only things intact, they are the grounding portion of the frame while there is chaos surrounding. The same logic is found in the outer walls as well, although they are broken there is still a line for your eye to follow to make a cohesive picture.
